  • Few Chinese Students: Compared to NYU or UCs, the percentage of Chinese students at ND is very low.
    • The Hurdle: The religious background and location (rural Indiana) deter many.

  • STEM: With tech growth, Engineering and Science are strengthening. CS and related fields are STEM-designated.

4. Safety and Location

  • Reality: South Bend itself is a bit rusty and average in safety.
    • The Bubble: However, the ND campus is a perfect “bubble.” It’s like an independent kingdom with its own power plant and fire station. As long as you stay on campus and the newly developed Eddy Street, it is very safe.

  • Reality: ND is rich but careful with international aid. However, they have the famous Greater China Scholars program. It offers a full ride (tuition + stipend + airfare) to a select few top Chinese students. Winning this is like hitting the jackpot.

Verdict for the Chinese Applicant:
If you don’t mind the Midwest location, don’t mind that most classmates are white Catholics, and crave a traditional, disciplined, and hyper-cohesive elite education, Notre Dame is the ultimate choice. Graduates here carry a distinct aura: Confident, Decent, and Responsible.
